Full-back tracking

Rule

Tracked means the nearest outfield opponent is within 6 m, goal-side, and moving with the full back for 1 s (cosine ≥ 0.60, speed difference ≤ 2 m/s), on an overlap or underlap in the attacking half.

Sample

260 attacking-half runs. 50 tracked, 210 not. 17 matches with both. About 19% fully tracked. Body pose was not used.

Receptions

Tracked runs were received 12.9 points less often: 20.0% versus 32.9%. Effect −0.129, interval −0.250 to −0.015.

Shots and xthreat

Shots are 16.0% when tracked versus 17.6% when not (interval −0.109 to +0.078). xthreat is 0.0159 versus 0.0194 (interval −0.0076 to +0.0004). Both intervals include zero.

Use

Keep this for receptions, not shots.

On the commute

The tracked full back was received 12.9 points less often (20.0% vs 32.9%) while shots and xthreat did not separate. Is reception the gap to keep?
