Sight of goal

An attacker who can see at least half the goal mouth is about twice as likely to be in a big chance (0.38 vs 0.19). That is mostly which way they are facing, not defenders' bodies blocking the goal. Two matches only. Worth a film label, not a league KPI yet.

Sample

536 attacking-third possessions.

A big chance is lead_to_shot, or SkillCorner xshot_player_possession_max of at least 0.20. Not xG, xGOT, or xT.

Opponent occlusion radius 0.25 m. Goal width 7.32 m.

Visible share

Visible share of the goal averages 0.54 (0.66 on big chances, 0.48 otherwise).

At the pre-specified cut of 0.50, the big-chance rate is 0.38 above the cut and 0.19 below it. Risk difference 0.19, 95% bootstrap interval 0.11 to 0.26.

The same cut separates chances in both matches. Cuts at 0.25 and 0.75 also separate them.

The gap is mostly shoulder heading, not the 0.25 m opponent circles.
